Susquehanna Tops Gettysburg in Non-Conference Action

Gettysburg falls 1-0 on the road to Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa.  – A second half goal lifted Susquehanna University past the Gettysburg College men's soccer team in a non-conference match on Wednesday night.

How It Happened…
  • First Half: The Bullets tested Susquehanna goalie Matt Ellingworth early with sophomore Connor Fife (Newtown, PA./Holy Ghost Prep), Carroll, and Thomas putting shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes. Ellingworth smothered all three attempts for his final saves of the night. Gettysburg finished the stanza with a 5-2 shot advantage.
  • Second Half: Naiman netted the tally for the River Hawks off a throw in as he beat the defender with 57:49 on the clock to pull ahead. Susquehanna looked to increase its lead when Naiman took the penalty kick with under 17 minutes remaining, but Keane made the outstanding dive to his left to stop the shot. Gettysburg took two shots after the Susquehanna goal, but were unable to connect.

  • Gettysburg moved up two spots in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional poll, taking the No.7 spot after being No. 9 for two consecutive weeks.

Gettysburg holds a 35-7-5 lead over Susquehanna in the all-time series that dates back to 1960. The River Hawks last victory against the Bullets was back in 2013 by the final score of 2-1.
