Women's Tennis Takes First Loss

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Ursinus College women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season Thursday morning, dropping an 8-1 decision to a strong Piedmont squad at the USTA National Campus.

The Bears had won each of their first five matches in convincing fashion, but the Lions came in with a mark of 10-2 and backed it up.

Cara Freedman and Maddie Russell stayed perfect at No. 2 doubles, improving to 6-0 on the year with an 8-5 victory over Samantha Lowry and Morgan Buccholz.

Ursinus was competitive on several other courts but was unable to take a set from the Lions. Russell came closest, conceding a tight first set in a 7-5, 6-2 defeat at No. 2 singles.

Caitlyn Sorelle played her No. 1 singles opponent to a close 6-4, 6-3 score line, and Brenna Trkula surrendered a 6-1, 6-4 decision at No. 3.

All six singles player won at least three games in a set for the Bears.

Women's tennis wraps up its spring trip back Friday morning, when they take on Baldwin Wallace back at the USTA National Campus.
