Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Fast Dickinson Start Too Much for Men's Lax

The Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team fell into a big hole early and could not recover, falling to 14th-ranked Dickinson, 14-9, on Senior Day.

Prior to the game, the Mules recognized seniors Daniel Doreste, Steve Chenworth, Nolan Robbins and Chris Markey (pictured left to right above).

The Red Devils (10-4, 4-2) blitzed the Mules (10-4, 3-3) with six goals in the first seven minutes, opening up a 6-1 lead. It was 8-2 at the end of one, and although the Mules rallied, they could never get closer than three.

Muhlenberg ran off three straight goals in the second period to cut the gap to 8-5 and nearly cut it to two. After the third of the goals, scored by sophomore Thomas Murphy, sophomore Matt Burke won the faceoff and passed to sophomore Ethan Grossman, whose shot hit the post.

The Mules closed to within three twice again at 10-7 in the third and 12-9 in the fourth, but Dickinson held on.

Junior Garrett Pope, the reigning Centennial Conference defensive player of the week, had another big game in goal, making 18 saves (one short of his career high), including seven on nine Dickinson second-quarter shots to give his team a chance to come back. Sophomore Matt Hager and freshman Kyle Lando combined for seven ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Grossman led the attack with four points on two goals and two assists, tying the school record of 32 assists he set last season. Sophomore Colin Adams added a pair of goals.
