Men’s Soccer Blanks Muhlenberg in CC Action

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College men's soccer team won a big match as they blanked Centennial Conference opponent Muhlenberg College on Saturday night by the final score of 2-0.

With tonight's win, the Bullets (6-3-1, 4-1 CC) currently hold the first-place spot in the Centennial Conference standings.

The Bullets started five freshmen in their lineup all of whom made enormous contributions and played exceptional for the squad.

Nine minutes into the opening half, freshman Mason Todhunter (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) tallied his first career assist as he dished a pass to junior Precious Ozoh (Abuja, Nigeria/Holderness School [N.H.]) who slipped the ball past the goalie to shot in the middle of the net for the Bullets first goal. Todhunter made his first career start in an Orange and Blue uniform, while Ozoh gathered his third goal of the season.

Despite what the score may show, Muhlenberg gave Gettysburg an aggressive battle. The Mules outshot the Bullets 9-7 in the opening frame, while Gettysburg owned the 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

Eight minutes into the second-half, Ozoh passed a crisp cross from the right side of the field to freshman Oladayo Thomas (Larchmont, N.Y./The Masters) as he headed the ball perfectly into the left corner of the net for the Bullets second tally. Thomas continues to excel on the offensive end as he leads the team in points with 12 (six goals), and has scored a total of six goals in the last seven games.

The Bullets found themselves in a dangerous situation at the 76:41 marker as a Gettysburg player was called for a foul in the box, allowing the Mules to take a penalty kick. Muhlenberg's Pete Luther kicked the ball to the right side of the net, but freshman goalkeeper Dillon Konzelmann (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) made a crucial, diving save for the Bullets.

Konzelmann (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) ended the match with a career-high six saves and has played astoundingly for the Bullets this season as he now holds a 3-0-1 record and three shutouts.

Muhlenberg concluded the match with a 19-11 shot advantage, while both teams finished with four corner kicks each.

The Bullets will take a break from conference play and welcome non-conference opponent Susquehanna University to Clark Field on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
