Hopkins Posts Strong Finishes at Diplomat Open

The Blue Jays Claimed Seven First-Place Finishes in the Meet

• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's track & field team opened the 2018-19 indoor season with many strong performances at the Diplomat Open on Saturday.

Meet Highlights
• The Blue Jays took home the top-three spots in the 60-meter dash with Alex Mollick leading the way followed by Matthew Su (7.04) and Justin Canedy (7.06). Canedy also earned a second-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.80m.
• Freshman Nathaniel Amoah finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.42 while fellow freshman Tim Carlson finished fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.68m.
• In the mile, Ted Oh earned a second-place finish, crossing the line in 4:29.75 while freshman Alex Ozbolt finished fifth (4:33.97) and Jack Armand (4:34.24) finished in sixth. Rob Dembinski finished in eighth (4:40.67) while Alex Condotti (4:47.29) and freshman Alex Dixon (4:47.29) finished 10th and 11th, respectively.
• The 3,000-meter run saw Hopkins claim four of the top-eight spots with Vipul Bhat leading the way in second followed by Kevin Peters, Scott Pourshalchi, and Sean Laidlaw in spots 5-7.
• Spots 1-6 in the 5k belonged to Hopkins with PJ Murray besting teammate Jared Pangallozzi by four seconds. Pangallozzi was followed by Ollie Hickson, Andrew King, Conner Delahanty and Alex Doran. Panth Patel finished eighth with a time of 15:31.96.
Matthew Su won the 60-meter hurdles while Elias Boussouf finished second in his first collegiate meet with a time of 8.89.
• The 4x400 relay team for the Blue Jays finished just under a second behind the team from Lincoln (PA) for the top spot as JHU finished with a time of 3:30.19 while Lincoln won the event with a mark of 3:29.97. The JHU 'B' team finished third with a time of 3:33.83.

Johns Hopkins Winners:
• Canedy opened his collegiate career with a victory in the high jump as his leap of 2.00m set a new freshman record.
• In the pole vault, Benjamin Huang claimed the top spot clearing 4.46m.
• Mollick took home first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.05 and also claimed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.20.
• Murray won the 5k with a time of 14:54.58 while Su won the hurdles with a mark of 8.69 seconds and also claimed first in the long jump with a leap of 6.95m.
