HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's lacrosse team (3-3) had to wait an extra day for its contest with Susquehanna (2-4), but the Fords made the most of the rescheduled time slot, grabbing a 14-8 victory over the River Hawks on a chilly day at Swan Field.

Matt Richards had a standout contest for the Fords, posting five goals and two assists while also grabbing five ground balls. Eric Dahlberg added three goals and a game-best nine ground balls while Blake Brinster notched two goals and four assists. Andrew Arth also added two goals and two assists to three ground balls. Teddy Carlin went 14-26 at the face-off X, collecting six ground balls on the night. Andy Tieso made his second consecutive start in goal, logging eight saves and allowing just eight goals in his 60 minutes of action.

Haverford used a 5-1 run that spanned the first and second quarters, with Richards tallying consecutive goals and an assist in the stretch, to take a commanding 6-2 lead. Susquehanna had designs on staying right in the contest, and did so with aplomb as Ted Zaborowski and Kobi Buffa tallied to open the third quarter, putting the River Hawks back within just one goal at 8-7 with 7:19 remaining in the third.

The Fords then turned on the gas offensively, with Richards adding three goals and an assist in a dominating third stanza, as the Fords suddenly found themselves up 12-7 with just 52 seconds remaining in the third. The run, which eventually reached 5-0, helped chew up a lot of clock as the Fords benefited from volume shooting with a whopping 64 shots, the most in program history, including 21 in that extensive third period flurry.

Arth and Brinster tallied goals in the fourth frame, with the Fords working and showcasing their depth in the final minutes of action to stifle Susquehanna. The Fords dominated ground balls by a 41-30 clip, and the River Hawks turned the ball over 28 times as Haverford showcased a swarming presence in the midfield.

The two sides were meeting for the first time in almost exactly 22 years, as the squads last matched up in Selinsgrove during the 2000 season.

Haverford now returns to action on Saturday, March 19 making the trip to Union, N.J. to take on Kean. The contest will begin at 1 p.m.
