Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Comes Back to Top Haverford

Freshman Mikaela McGarvey deposited the go-ahead jumper with 3:42 remaining, and netted a pair of insurance free throws with two seconds left in the Muhlenberg women's basketball team's 44-40 win over Haverford.

Following the win, the Mules (14-7, 10-6 CC) sit in fifth place in the conference standings. Muhlenberg is tied in the loss column with Ursinus – the Bears sit in fourth by virtue of 11 wins – and three games ahead of sixth-place Franklin & Marshall.

The Mules took a 38-34 lead into a fourth quarter in which scoring came at a premium. The Fords (17-6, 13-5 CC) scored their only six points of the frame in the first two minutes to jump in front 40-38. Freshman Margaux Eripret laid in the tying basket with 4:38 remaining.

Muhlenberg forced turnovers on the three Haverford possessions that followed McGarvey's go-ahead jumper. Eripret and senior Sara Dilly each registered a steal, sandwiched around a charge drawn by freshman Amanda Gorski with 2:22 on the clock.

McGarvey came up big out of a pair of Haverford timeouts in the final minute. The frosh stole the ball following a Ford offensive rebound with 43 ticks to go, one possession before collecting the defensive rebound off a three-point attempt. She was fouled following the rebound and, with the Mules in the bonus, converted both free throw attempts.

Muhlenberg rallied from a 16-point deficit two and a half minutes into the second quarter. McGarvey hit a jumper at the seven minute mark to open a 32-12 run that ended with their two-point advantage at the end of the third.  Defensively, the Mules forced 1-0 of Haverford's 22 turnovers during the run.
