Men's Track & Field Returns to Action at Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. — Competing for the first time since February of 2020, Swarthmore Men's Track and Field began the 2021-22 season on Saturday with a strong showing at the unscored Haverford Holiday Meet.

Ethan Rothenberg and Ben Wade led the way for the Garnet on the track, finishing first and second respectively in the 800-meter run. Rothenberg crossed the finished line with a time of 2:04.36, while Wade was close behind at 2:06.58.

The 200-meter race proved to be the most tightly-contested on the afternoon, with Swarthmore's Jake Vercellino finishing his first collegiate event in 24.32 seconds, just 0.07 seconds behind the first-place finisher.

Sam Brody also took second place in his only race of the day, crossing the finish line in the 1-mile run with a time of 4:41.35.

In the field events, Christopher Folk placed second in the high jump with a best mark of 1.80 meters (5'-10.75"). Similarly, Jonah Covitz earned second in the long jump with a best attempt of 5.78 meters (18'-10.75").

The Garnet will next compete in 2022, when they visit the 168th St. Armory in New York City for the Lions Indoor Invitational, hosted by The College of New Jersey.
