Women's Tennis Sets Best Centennial Start Mark With 7-2 Win Over Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Ursinus women's tennis team continued their strong start to Centennial Conference action as they defeated Muhlenberg 7-2 on the road on Tuesday afternoon.

 

With the win, the Bears improved to 8-3 overall and 3-0 in Centennial Conference play to mark the best start in program history for conference play. Meanwhile, the Mules fell to 5-4 overall and 0-3 in conference action.

 

 

The Bears won two of the first three doubles matches to grab momentum early in the match. First-year Shannon Stewart and sophomore Claire Burke earned an 8-3 win at No. 2 singles over Sophia Framm and Rose Glantz. Senior Maddie Russell and junior Ava Compagnoni earned a dominant 8-1 win at the No. 3 spot over Stefanie Wolff and Malin Hermanson. Sophomores Avery Samer and Caitlin Vinsonhaler were defeated by Caroline Maglaras and Caroline Armknecht, 8-3.

 

 

Russell defeated Maglaras at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-4 and Burke suffered a 5-7, 2-6 setback to Armknecht at No. 2 singles. Vinsonhaler took down Framm 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 3 position while Samer bested Glantz convincingly, 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 4 singles spot. Compangnoni earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at the No. 5 position over Wolff and Stewart won 6-0, 6-0 for the second-straight Centennial match as she downed Jessica Rosen.

 

Ursinus returns to action on Friday, April 8th as they will take a quick break from Centennial play by facing Rutgers-Camden at 3:30 p.m.
