Chris DeGiacomo hit a grand slam as he finished the day a triple shy of the cycle while
Jack Bunting improved to 8-0 on the season as Johns Hopkins scored 10 unanswered runs to defeat visiting Washington College, 10-1 on Tuesday evening at Babb Field.
How it Happened
• The Shoreman opened the scoring in the top of the second as Jack Kingman doubled home the first run of the game. The Blue Jays quickly responded in the bottom of the inning as back-to-back doubles from
Chris DeGiacomo and
AJ King knotted up the game.
• DeGiacomo put Hopkins in control with a grand slam in the third as he took the 1-0 pitch over the right field wall to make the score 5-1.
• Bunting was in control on the mound as he allowed just two hits from innings 4-7.
• Hopkins added two runs in the sixth on a two-run homer by
Mark Lopez to make the score 7-1 and a three-run home run by
Tim Kutcher in the seventh made it a 10-1 ball game.

Jaspar Carmichael pitched the final two innings for the Blue Jays as they held Washington College without a hit to seal the 10-1 victory. Â

What it Means
• Bunting is the first Blue Jay pitcher to open the season 8-0 since
Sam Eagleson and
Alex Eliopoulos both opened the 2010 season with 8-0 records. Eagleson was named the Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Year that season.
• JHU has won the last 12 games against the Shoremen as Hopkins leads the all-time series, 91-34.
• The Blue Jays are now 11-1 when scoring at least 10 runs and are 10-2 when hitting at least two home runs in a game.

• DeGiacomo finished the day a triple shy of the cycle as he went 3-4 on the day with four RBI. He now has eight homers on the year to go along with 30 RBIs. He is tied for the Centennial lead in homers and ranks fifth in RBIs.
• King notched the first three-hit game of his career and he scored two runs in the game.
• With the three runs batted in, Kutcher now has 18 on the year to go along with his six homers.
• Bunting was solid on the mound once again as he went seven strong innings, allowing just five hits and one earned run. He struck out four and gave up no walks in the game. Hejka and Carmichael pitched the final two innings allowing no hits or walks. Hejka notched one strikeout in his one inning of work.
