ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's golf team shaved 19 strokes off its first round total and finished in fourth place at its own invitational held at the Hanover Country Club on April 2-3.
Gettysburg posted the biggest drop from day one to day two of its home tournament. After carding 380 as a team on Saturday, the Bullets shot 361 during the final round as three members of the starting five dropped their scores. Only two teams improved their scoring from the first to second round.
York (Pa.) College ran away with the team title with a two-day total of 628 (308-320). The Spartans featured four individuals among the top five with Jordan Koller winning medalist honors by three strokes with a 153 (75-78). Alvernia University finished runner-up at 699 (347-352), while Shenandoah University edged out Gettysburg by a stroke with 740 (372-368). Dickinson College (788) and McDaniel College (956) rounded out the six-team field.
Sophomore
Mia Wilutis (Water Mill, N.Y./Southampton) accounted for Gettysburg's biggest improvement during the event. After shooting 95 on Saturday, Wilutis finished one stroke shy of her personal best with an 84. Her two-day total of 179 placed her ninth in the field of 31.
Junior
Caroline Kurtt (Denver, Colo./Clovis (Calif.)) finished just behind Wilutis in 11th. Kurtt paced the team with an 87 on Saturday and finished with a 94 on Sunday.
Senior
Cam D'Amica (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley) nearly matched Wilutis' 11-stroke improvement, shaving nine strokes from her first-round tally. D'Amica carded a 99 on Saturday and shot 90 on Sunday to finish in 13th place.
Freshmen
Monica Solis (Clemmons, N.C./West Forsyth) and
Anne Harrower (Glenside, Pa./Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) rounded out the starting lineup by shooting 193 (100-93) and 200 (99-101), respectively. Solis shaved seven strokes off her first-round total and placed 17th, while Harrower finished 20th.
Competing as individuals, sophomores
Audrey Coughlin (Philadelphia, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) and
Ella Zimmerman (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) finished 25th (215) and 27th (236), respectively.
Gettysburg competes at the York Invitational at the Regents Glen Country Club on April 10-11.
