Women's Lacrosse Edged In Overtime

WESTMINSTER, Md.—Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse was taken down in overtime on Saturday at McDaniel College, falling 19-18 to the Green Terror.

Swarthmore has had four games decided by one this season, but Saturday was just the first time the Garnet ended up on the losing side of one of those games.

Three Garnet players recorded at least three goals. Elizabeth Wainwright and Sydnie Schwarz both led Swarthmore with four goals while Mackenzie Frost and Kathryn Restrepo each had hat tricks. Restrepo joined teammates Tess Wild and Wainwright in reaching 100 career points.

Freshman Julia Ostrowski posted a pair of goals. Bella Levine and Sophie Peipher also scored.

With the loss, Swarthmore dipped to 3-4 in Centennial Conference play. McDaniel earned its second Centennial win of the year.

A five-goal run in the first half for McDaniel put the Green Terror ahead 11-7 with eight minutes to go in the first half. Swarthmore strung together three straight goals to pull within one, but McDaniel entered halftime ahead 13-10.

Swarthmore went on a four-goal streak 10 minutes into the second half, tying the game at 15-15 with a goal from Ostrowski at 11:10.

Swarthmore trailed by one with three minutes left, but Sydnie Schwarz evened the score with her fourth goal of the game at 2:50.

Betsy Cohen picked up her 13th save of the game with just four seconds left to force overtime.

In OT, McDaniel won the opening draw and worked towards goal quickly. The Green Terror's Emily Brownawell scored her sixth goal of the game 30 seconds into the overtime period for the golden goal.

Swarthmore is back in action on Wednesday at Washington College.
