#9 Men's Tennis Shut Out John Carroll & Haverford College

ORLANDO, FL - The 9th ranked NC Wesleyan College men's tennis team shut out John Carroll University (OH) 9-0 on Tuesday in their first match of the Orlando Spring Tournament at the USTA Campus. The Bishop men then came right back on Wednesday morning and shut down Haverford College (Pa.) 9-0 as well to remain unbeaten.

Wesleyan dominated in all three doubles matches against JCU winning 8-2 at the top line with sophomore John Falke and senior Max Robinson, 8-4 at the two line with senior Roberto Puig and freshman Diego Segovia, and then 8-3 at the three line with juniors Tshepo Mosarwa and Thato Holmes

The Bishops then dominated four singles matches in straight sets with senior JP Vallejo at #1, junior Augusto Roca at #3, Mosarwa at #4, and sophomore Joaquin Micheloni at #6 to clinch the match as they took a 7-0 lead. 

There were also two thrilling three-set matches at the #2 and #5 singles matches. Freshman Luca Knese first came back to win at the #2 spot falling 4-6 before rallying 6-1 and 10-5. While the match of the day took place at the #5 spot as Valentin Aniceto came back to win 6-7, 6-4, 11-9.

Wesleyan is now 9-0 on the season as their match with Wake Forest in February was deemed an exhibition.

In the Haverford match, 3rd ranked senior Jhonny Acosta made his Florida debut as he dominated his singles foe 6-2, 6-1 after teaming with fellow senior JP Vallejo to win 8-1 at the top doubles line. Falke and Puig then teamed up to roll past their doubles foes 8-2 while Falke also outdueled his singles foe 6-4, 6-3 at the two line. Mosarwa and Holmes then finished off doubles winning 8-3.

"The MVP for today was JP. He was locked in," commented the NCWC tennis coaches Albie Brice and Matt Rowe. Vallejo went on to win his singles bout in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 at the three line while Puig crushed his foe 6-3, 6-1 at the four line. Diego Segovia finished off his foe with ease, 6-1, 6-1 while Roca ousted his opponent 6-0, 6-4.

The Bishops will next battle two Div. I foes on Thursday taking on Creighton (Neb.) in the morning and possibly Radford College (Va.) in the afternoon down in Orlando.
