No. 12 Baseball Falls to Johns Hopkins (Md.) in Second Round of the College World Series

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The No. 12 nationally-ranked and fifth-seeded Baldwin Wallace University baseball fell to No. 1 nationally-ranked and top-seeded Johns Hopkins (Md.) University in the second round of the NCAA Division III College World Series by a final score of 10-6 on the PG Cares Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

BW (37-11) was led by senior outfielder Andrew Parker (Toledo/Toledo Central Catholic) who went 2-for-4 with his second home run of the College World Series. Junior infielder Nick Clark (Willowick/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) hit a two-run home run in the first inning and went 1-for-4 on the afternoon.

Scoring Plays

  • Johns Hopkins (46-5) got on the board in the top of the first with an RBI single from sophomore infielder Shawn Steuerer.
  • Clark gave the Yellow Jackets the lead in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run homer off the signage in right field.
  • The Blue Jays tied things up in the top of the second with a sacrifice fly from Jimmy Stevens.
  • Johns Hopkins took the lead in the fourth with an RBI single from sophomore first baseman Dillon Souvignier.
  • Steuerer drove in three more for the Blue Jays in the sixth inning with a bases clearing double to left center.
  • Junior outfielder Tripp Myers made it a 7-2 game with an RBI single.
  • BW got back in the board in the sixth inning starting things off with an RBI single from senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference outfielder Vincent Capolupo (Kenmore, N.Y./Saint Joseph's Collegiate)
  • Senior All-American Luke Vonderhaar (New Bremen) made it a 7-4 with an RBI single of his own.
  • Johns Hopkins got back on the board in the seventh inning with an RBI sacrifice bunt from sophomore outfielder Jake Siani.
  • Steurer continued his hot day in the seventh with a two-run double to make it 10-4.
  • Parker got one run back in the bottom half of the seventh with a solo home run to left field.
  • Senior All-American Alexis Castillo (Sunrise, Fla./The Sagemont School) made it a 10-6 and knocked in the last run of the game with an RBI single to center.

On the Mound

  • Senior All-OAC left-handed pitcher Nik Baldis (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) got the start in picked up the loss. He went three innings and allowed three runs on five hits and four walks with a pair of strikeouts.
  • Senior All-OAC right-handed pitcher Dawson Gabe (Lawrence, Ind.) came into relief and went three innings while allowing four runs on five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.
  • Sophomore All-OAC right-handed pitcher Dylan Snyder (Stow/Archbishop Hoban) went one inning in relief and allowed three runs on three hits and a walk.
  • Junior All-OAC pitcher Gordon Seger (Rome/Grand Valley) pitched a perfect eighth inning.
  • Senior right-handed pitcher Clay Anderson (Broadview Heights/Trinity) pitched a perfect ninth inning.
