COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Behind six forfeits and four decisions the Ursinus College men's wrestling team cruised to a 48-0 victory over Elmira College on Sunday afternoon from Helfferich Hall.
Wesley Tosto,
Dante Monaco,
Connor Fritsch, and
Jake Ahmad each collected victories by decision as the Bears improved to 2-2 on the season in dual meet action.
"We took care of business today," Head Coach
Joe Jamison said. "Everyone wrestled hard and did their job! It's been a tough grind for these guys, and we continue to improve."
Ursinus jumped out to an early 12-0 lead as
Teague McCormack and
Michael Adams each recorded victories by forfeit in the opening two bouts. Tosto earned a 6-0 decision at 141lbs defeating Elmira's Selvin Maldonado. The first period ended tied 0-0 as Tosto chose bottom and earned a quick escape for a 1-0 edge. Tosto earned the first takedown of the match midway through the second period and collected two near fall points in route to the 6-0 victory.
At 149lbs, senior
Romeo Rodriguez picked up a forfeit extending the Bears advantage to 21. Monaco earned a 7-3 decision at 157lbs behind two takedowns and a reversal to improve to 9-5 overall on the season. After Monaco's victory at 157lbs, first-year
Anthony Cerulli (165lbs) and sophomore
Jordan Downey (174lbs) each collected forfeits at their respective weight classes to extend the Bears lead to 36.
Junior
Connor Fritsch recorded a 6-3 decision at 197lbs over Elmira's Bryan Stafford while
Jonny Gherman earned a forfeit at 197lbs making the score 45-0. Senior
Jake Ahmad collected a hard-fought 7-0 decision at 285lbs to close out the match and improve to 4-2 on the season.
The Bears will return to action on Thursday, December 22
nd as they travel to Wilkes College for the Wilkes Open starting at 9:30 a.m.
