GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Freshman
Cooper Kearns won three events to lead the women's team while senior
Matt Libby captured two events for the men's squad as Gettysburg swept Washington College in the Bullets' home and Centennial Conference opener Saturday afternoon at the Gettysburg College Bullets Pool.
The women's team (2-0, 1-0 CC) finished first in eight of 11 events, including sweeps in the 50-free, 200-IM, 200-back, and 500-free, en route to a 130-62 victory while the men's squad (2-0, 1-0 CC) touched first in nine of 11 events to pick up a 132-67 triumph. The Bullet men swept the 1,000-free, 50-free, 200-IM, 100-free, and 200-back.
Washington women's team (1-1, 1-1 CC) was competing in its second meet of the year while its men's squad was swimming in its season opener.
Kearns earned victories in the 200-free (1:59.99), the 200-fly (2:16.25), and the 500-free (5:25.87). Classmate
Haley Weaver was also a multi-winner, capturing the 200-IM (2:15.94) and the 200-back (2:12.08).
Other individual winners were sophomore
Logan Swisher in the 1,000-free (11:09.08) and sophomore
Ali Roth in the 50-free (25.96).
The women finished first in both relays, with the 400-medley team of junior
Cassie Close, junior
Brooke Lacey, senior
Mariesa Slaughter, and Roth posting a time of 4:16.21 while junior
Caroline Coolidge, sophomore
Emily Healey, Close, and Weaver won the 400-free relay in 3:47.86; however, the event was exhibitioned.
Libby was a winner in both the 200-IM (2:01.22) and the 500-free (4:58.99). Five other Bullets came away with individual victories: senior
Pat McDevitt in the 1,000-free (10:42.01), freshman
Ashton Leyens in the 200-free (1:47.80), freshman
Jason Potter in the 50-free (21.69), freshman
Stu Cubbison in the 100-free (48.05), and freshman
Mike Harmon in the 200-back (1:58.47). Senior
Roger Nawrocki also finished first in the 200-breast (2:18.66), but the event was exhibitioned.
The men were first in both relays as well. Harmon, Nawrocki, senior
Tom Everett, and Potter won the 400-medley and Potter, Harmon, Leyens, and Libby touched the wall first in the exhibitioned 400-free.
Gettysburg resumes Centennial Conference action on Wednesday, when it visits McDaniel College at 7 p.m.
