Hopkins Competes at Panorama Invite, Rowan Border Battle

Blue Jays Place Five Scoring Runners In Top 100 at UVA

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – Senior Matt Kleinman placed 58th overall and 52nd among scoring runners to lead the seventh-ranked Johns Hopkins men's cross country team to a 14th-place finish at the University of Virginia's Panorama Invitational Saturday morning.  The event included 17 teams – 16 Division I teams and the Division III Blue Jays, who placed all five of their scoring runners in the top 97 (among scoring runners) and totaled 402 points to earn their 14th-place finish.
 
Wake Forest, currently the number seven team in the nation in Division I, won the team title with 47 points, while Virginia (68 pts.), Texas (102), Charlotte (116) and Eastern Kentucky (136) rounded out the top five.  Texas (18th), Virginia (19th) and Charlotte (30th) are all currently ranked in the top 30 in the nation.
 
Kleinman used a strong closing kick to earn his top-60 finish.  He was 78th at the 2k and 3k marks and was still 74th at the 5k mark before making his move and crossing in 24:22.5.
 
Junior Gavin McElhennon was the next Blue Jay finisher (85th overall / 77th among scoring runners) as the finished in 24:51.1.  Like Kleinman, McElhennon closed with a strong kick as he was 98th at the 5k mark.
 
Freshman Emmanuel Leblond (104th/85th) led Hopkins' final three scoring runners across the line as he clocked in at 25:11.4.  Daniel Chen (112th/91st) and Jonas Larson (118th/97th) were just behind Leblond as they finished in 25:15.4 and 25:20.8, respectively.
 
GLASSBORO, NJ – Competing at Rowan's Border Battle, select members of the Blue Jay men's cross country team placed 26th in a field of 35 with 722 points.
 
Andrew Myers led the way for the Blue Jays as he placed 115th overall in a time of 26:59.7.   Johns Hopkins would add another top-150 finisher in the field of more 300 competitors as Vaughn Decker crossed in 142nd place at the 27:28 mark.  Among scoring runners, Myers was 104th and Vaughn was 125th.
 
RPI claimed the team title with 39 points, while SUNY Geneseo (77 points), Lynchburg (79), Washington & Lee (183) and Brockport St (209) rounded out the top five.
