Men’s Basketball Bested at Johns Hopkins

Bullets fall to Centennial Conference foe Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, Md. The Gettysburg College men's basketball team fell at Centennial Conference foe Johns Hopkins University 86-56 on Saturday evening.
 
Freshman Jack Rooney (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) led the Bullets (4-13, 3-7 CC) with 12 points, hitting 3-of-5 from 3-point range. Sophomore Danny Bomberger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) came off the bench to produce a career-high 10 points and four rebounds. Sophomore Avery Close (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) grabbed a team-high five boards.
 
Michael Gardner registered a game-high 23 points, going 7-of-13 from the field, to lead Johns Hopkins (12-5, 9-1 CC). Tom Quarry and Alex Schachne both came off the bench to tally 16 and 10 points, respectively.
 
Johns Hopkins jumped to a dominating 20-4 lead six minutes into the first half. Rooney converted on a four-point play, while Bomberger made a layup to cut the advantage down to 12 (22-10) with 13:31 left in the frame. The Blue Jays continued to pour out the points as they held a 22-point lead (48-26) heading into intermission. The hosts shot 57.7 percent (15-of-26) from the floor and hit 15-of-17 (88.2 percent) from the free throw line.
 
The Blue Jays continued with the hot hands in the second half as they lead by as many as 35 points, shooting 52.2 percent (12-of-23) overall en route to securing their ninth conference win of the season.
 
As a team, the Bullets went 20-of-57 (35.1 percent) from the field, 7-of-24 from beyond the arc, and 9-of-13 (69.2 percent) from the free throw line. The Blue Jays made 55.1 percent (27-of-49) of their shots, went 5-of-18 from 3-point range, and ended the game hitting 90 percent (27-of-30) of their free throws. The hosts won the rebounding battle 40-22.
 
Gettysburg returns to Bream Gym to host Dickinson College on Thursday, January 24th at 6 p.m.
