HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Lawrence Technological University (Mich.), members of the NAIA, won five of six singles bouts to overcome an early deficit and beat the Gettysburg College men's tennis team 6-3 in non-conference action on Wednesday in its spring trip finale.
Gettysburg (5-3) jumped out to the early lead with a pair of wins in doubles play. Senior
Nick D'Amore (Scotch Plains, N.J./Wardlaw-Hartridge) and junior
Mike Mills (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) fell at the top flight 8-3, but the Bullets bounced back with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3. Senior
Kevin Maier (Alpharetta, Ga./Milton) and sophomore
Tommy Gilio (New Canaan, Conn./New Canann) took down Lukas Obel and Robert Saitov in a tiebreaker (9-8, 8-6) at the No. 2 spot, while junior
Jacob Meehan (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) and sophomore
Harrison Brown (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) collected the 9-7 decision at the third flight to give the Bullets a 2-1 lead.
Lawrence Tech (8-6) then swept three of the five single matches in straight-sets. Senior
Andrew Corwin (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) accounted for the Bullets lone singles win, defeating Lukas Obel 6-4, 7-5 at the fifth position.
Gettysburg will be back in action on Friday, March 22, when they welcome Juniata College to the Bullets Tennis Courts at 3:30 p.m.
