Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Dalimonte, Feaster Shine in Men’s Lacrosse Win

Junior Frankie Feaster set a new program-record for faceoff wins in a game and freshman James Dalimonte netted six goals in leading the Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team to victory, 17-13, at Southern Virginia.

Feaster (pictured above) dominated the X, winning 26 of 30 faceoffs. His 26 wins tops his own program record of 22, a feat in which he accomplished twice last season. In conjunction with his faceoff dominance came 18 ground balls, the second most in a single game in program history. Feaster owns four of the top five single-game faceoff win totals and three of the top five single-game ground ball totals.

Dalimonte's six markers are the second most in a game in program history and one shy of the school record. He is the second Mule this season to score six goals, matching senior Scott Fayan's season-opening performance. The frosh has 11 goals over the last two games.

Down 5-4 midway through the second quarter, the Mules (4-1) scored four straight goals to take an 8-5 lead to the break. Senior Daniel Doreste's first goal of the season, which came with 8:21 to go in the quarter, began the momentum shifting run.

Dalimonte followed just over a minute later with his first of the day to put Muhlenberg up for good, before burying a feed from junior Bobby McLoughlin with 3.6 ticks to go in the half. McLoughlin netted his first goal of the season 28 seconds earlier off an assist from sophomore PJ Lombara.

The Mules led by three late in the fourth quarter, before killing off a one-minute non-releasable extra-man opportunity for the Knights (3-4), squashing any momentum towards a comeback bid. A Southern Virginia player threw an errant pass that went out of bounds to give the Mules possession and run out the penalty time.

McLoughlin finished with three points, his first three of the season, and sophomore Ethan Grossman added three assists to his 10th career hat trick. Sophomores Thomas Murphy and Alexander Giaquinto each netted their first goals of the season, while freshman Maxwell Seeber scored for the first time in his career and finished with five ground balls.

Junior Garrett Pope came up big between the pipes with a season-best 16 saves on 39 shots faced. One of the highlights of his performance came early in the fourth quarter, when he came from behind the cage and dropped to his knees denying what the shooter thought was an open shot.

Muhlenberg's 17 goals are the most since putting up 19 on SUNY Canton in last season's ECAC Tournament opener.
