Gophers Edged by Bullets 5-4

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Goucher College staked itself to a 2-1 lead after doubles, but host Gettysburg College took four of six singles matches to claim a 5-4 non-conference men's tennis victory Wednesday afternoon.
- Goucher (6-6) picked up wins at No. 1 and 3 doubles, while Gettysburg (7-5) picked up a point at No. 2.
- Brian Kane (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Select) and Omosesan Adebamgbe (Philadelphia, Pa./Lower Merion) prevailed 8-6 at No. 1.
- Angel Cerpa (El Paso, Texas/Americas) and Joshua Noel (Ennis, Texas/Ennis) were 8-3 victors at No. 3.
- The Bullets earned points at each of the top four singles flights.
- Calis Nguyen (Houston, Texas/School of the Woods) rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 win at No. 5.
- Jackson Beam (Knightdale, N.C./Knightdale) won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 6.
- Noel forced a third set by winning a tiebreaker in the second set before falling 6-4, 6-7 (7-9), 10-6.
- Kane and Adebamgbe and Cerpa and Noel each won their fourth straight doubles match.
- Nguyen has won six straight singles matches and improved to 11-4 on the season.
- Goucher returns to Landmark Conference action Saturday, traveling to Susquehanna for a 1 pm match.
- The Gophers return home next Wednesday, hosting Catholic at 3:30 and McDaniel at 6:30 at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
