CHESTER, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Soccer improved to 2-1 on Wednesday night with a 3-1 road win against local foe Widener University. The Garnet have now won 12 straight times when facing the Widener Pride.
Yuheng Wang,
Ethan Witkowski and
Zach Viscusi all scored in the win for Swarthmore.
The Garnet out-shot the hosts 15-10.
Wang tallied the first goal of the game, gathering a deflection and finishing far post from the left side in the ninth minute.
Swarthmore nearly added another goal just before halftime but
Julian Bueno's attempt plunked off the post.
Joe Barile put one off the post in the 50th minute as well.
Swarthmore's second goal came in the 61st minute when Witkowski beat the Widener keeper in a one-on-one for his first score as a member of the Garnet.
A penalty kick was awarded to Swarthmore in the 67th minute. Junior
Zach Viscusi lined up for the kick and buried the try for his first goal of the season.
Widener snuck in a goal in the 80th minute on a set piece, but it was too little, too late for the Pride. The Pride only put three shots on target and Swarthmore goalkeeper
Oliver Steinglass made two saves in the win.
Swarthmore travels to Alvernia University next for a 2 p.m. game on Sunday.
