SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Hosting their third of four home meets, the Swarthmore women's swim team took down Gettysburg College 192-70 on Saturday, Jan. 28th.
The Garnet dominated the Bullets, finishing first in 11 of 12 individual events and sweeping the relays. At a final score of 192-70, Swarthmore secured their largest margin of victory over Gettysburg in program history.
On an individual level, the Garnet saw excellent performances from first year
Quinn Weygandt, junior
Ashley Wong, sophomore
Sophie Rotival and first year
Elle Anthony, with each swimmer capturing multiple individual event wins. Weygandt secured victories in the 1000 yard freestyle, the 500 yard freestyle and the 400 yard IM, Wong won the 100 yard backstroke and 100 butterfly, Rotival triumphed in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke, and Anthony came out on top in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Starting the meet off strong, the quartet of Rotival, Wong, sophomore
Erin Szuromi and junior
Cara Lee finished first in the 400 yard medley relay, coming in with a time of 3:56.31, over six seconds faster than second place and a new pool record.
- Following up one record setting performance with another, Weygandt swam the seventh fastest time in Swarthmore school history in the 1000 yard freestyle, finishing with a winning time of 10:48.84, 14 seconds ahead of the runner up. Weygandt also captured wins in the 500 yard freestyle and the 400 yard IM, putting up times of 5:16.38 and 4:37.59 respectively.
- Wong took home wins in both the 100 yard backstroke and the 100 yard butterfly, finishing with a time of 58.98 in the former and a time of 58.26 in the latter.
- Rotival dominated the breaststroke, picking up wins in the 100 and the 200. In the 100, Rotival finished with a time of 1:05.17, while in the 200 she finished with a time of 2:24.97.
- Wrapping up the list of multiple individual wins, Anthony made freestyle sprints her own, winning the 50 and 100 with times of 24.21 and 52.71 respectively. Additionally, Anthony finished second in the 200, putting up the 7th fastest time in Swarthmore school history at 1:55.87 in the process.

Annaliese Chen won individual events, with Duffy finishing first in the 200 yard backstroke at 2:08.24, and Chen coming out on top in the 200 yard butterfly at 2:09.38.
- Rounding out an extremely successful meet for the Garnet, the squad of Rotival, Anthony, senior
Gaby Ma and first year Ashley Jane Tambling took first place in the 200 yard freestyle relay, finishing with a time of 1:38.82, the 10th best mark in Swarthmore school history.
