YORK, PA -- The Johns Hopkins wrestling team placed ninth in the 15-team New Standard Corporation Invitational at York College on Saturday. The Blue Jays totaled 46.5 points to earn their ninth-place showing.

Johnson & Wales earned the team title with 158 points and was followed by The College of New Jersey (127), Stevens (123), Roger Williams (88) and Ithaca (77.5) in the top five of the final team standings.

Reyes Earns Runner-Up Finish
Junior
Dominick Reyes (165), who is currently ranked 10
th in the nation by the NWCA, picked up a pair of wins to open the day before falling by a point in the title match to finish second.

Reyes opened his day in the quarterfinals and scored a decisive 18-10 victory against TCNJ's John Gardus to move into the semifinals, where he topped Tim Higginson of Johnson & Wales, 4-3. Reyes scored an escape and a penalty point in the third period and a point of riding time locked up the one-point victory.

In the finals, he drew seventh-ranked Austin Whitney of Ithaca and fell behind 4-1 at the end of the first period before scoring a takedown in the middle of the second period to pull within 4-3. Whitney escaped late in the period to make it 5-3 and Reyes added an ecape of his own early in the third to pull within 5-4, but Whitney held him off in the final minute to secure the win and individual title.

Wertheimer Places Sixth
Senior
Nathan Wertheimer (184) placed sixth to earn his third tournament placement of the season. Down 2-1 at the end of the first period in his quarterfinal matchup against Anthony Malfitano of Roger Williams, Wertheimer started the second period on top and worked Malfitano to his back and earned the pin just 45 seconds into the second period. He was then bumped to the consolation bracket with a 7-0 loss to top-ranked Josh Glantzman of the Merchant Marine Academy before withdrawing to place sixth overall.

The Blue Jays had six wrestlers alive in the consolation bracket at the start of the second day of the tournament.Â

Sophomore
Bradlee Lamontagne (157) went 2-1 to narrowly miss a chance at a top-six finish. He scored a pair of come-from-behind one-point wins to secure his two wins. He erased a 7-1 deficit in an 8-7 decision of Brockport's Reese Lockwood and then came from down 9-4 to edge Jack Kelly of Roger Williams, 10-9. He used an escape with just over a minute remaining and then a takedown in the final 40 seconds to fuel the victory against Kelly.  His run came to an end in the next round as Darius Joyce of Johnson & Wales used a takedown with 20 seconds remaining to grab a 4-3 win.

Sophomore
Joe Paul (174) went 1-1 on the second day and was eliminated in the consolation round of eight. He outscored David McElravy of Apprentice 5-1 in the final 70 seconds to lock up an 11-4 win in his first bout of the day before Cameron Altobelli of Johnson & Wales stayed in control throughout their bout to win 6-1 and eliminate Paul.

Jared Osborne (149) and
Hank Behaeghel (285) had all advanced to Saturday's second day of competition, but each dropped his first match of the day to be eliminated.

Johns Hopkins will return to action on December 29-30 when the Blue Jays travel to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to participate in the Citrus Open.
