Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball One Win Away from Playoffs

The Muhlenberg women's basketball team moved to within one win of a Centennial Conference playoff berth with a 56-39 win at Washington College.

With two games left in the regular season, the Mules (15-8, 11-7) are in fifth place in the CC, two games ahead of both Dickinson and Franklin & Marshall. A win in either of their two remaining games, at Ursinus on Wednesday and home vs. F&M on Saturday, would secure the CC's fifth and final berth. If Muhlenberg wins both games, it will clinch the fourth seed and a home playoff game.

Freshman Margaux Eripret scored a game-high 18 points, topping her previous career high of 14 in the first half alone and hitting her first career three-pointer. Junior Ashley Polera had a strong all-around game, with 12 points, a career-high 7 rebounds and 6 assists, and senior Sara Dilly narrowly missed her second career double-double, finishing with 8 points and a season-high 10 rebounds.

The Mules excelled on defense, holding an opponent to 40 points or fewer for the eighth time this season. The Shorewomen (7-16, 4-14) started 1-for-19 from the field and shot just 26.4 percent for the game.

Senior Carley Hamilton led Muhlenberg's interior defense, tying her career high of 4 blocked shots.

A three-pointer by Dilly and a pair of layups by junior Madison Kirchofer (pictured above), one in transition and the other off an offensive rebound, gave the Mules a 7-1 lead midway through the first quarter. Muhlenberg opened up a double-digit lead, at 16-6, in the first minute of the second quarter and never let Washington get within seven points the rest of the game.
