Men's Basketball Takes Down McDaniel to Sweep Season Series

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Ursinus College men's basketball team (10-9, 5-7 CC) swept the season series over McDaniel (5-14, 1-11 CC), winning 69-51 on Saturday. The Bears played steady offense, shooting 56.5% from the field and locked down on defense, holding the Green Terror to 36.2% in the win.

Ryan McTamney led the Bears scoring with 20 points and George Gordon added three steals while Bruce Edwards tallied seven rebounds on the defensive end.

Needing a conference win on Saturday, the Bears were up to the task. Ursinus fell behind early, but Ryan Hughes tied the game with a jumper and then made a layup to take the lead, going coast-to-coast after grabbing the rebound at the defensive end.

The Bears would remain in control for much of the opening half. A Trey Koehler three put Ursinus up by six and then Kpadeh matched with a trey of his own to put Ursinus ahead 22-14. A Ryan McTamney lay-up gave the Bears a double-digit lead, but the Green Terrror however, would not go away quietly. McDaniel went on a 13-0 run, capitalizing on three Bears turnovers and cold shooting to go up 27-25.

Lucas Olshevski snapped a nearly five-minute scoreless run to tie the game up at 27 before a McTamney make from downtown gave the lead back to Ursinus. The Red and Gold would not trail again. A 12-0 run capped off by a Hughes three put the Bears ahead 37-27 as they went into the locker room with a 39-31 lead.

Both teams struggled to score to begin the final 20 minutes until McDaniel finally found netting on a three 3:22 into the half. Kpadeh responded with a trey of his own and then a George Gordon lay-in put Ursinus back up by 10.

The Bears managed to keep their distance, not allowing the Green Terror back within six. Ursinus fed off of the energy produced by a dunk by Bruce Edwards to go on an 11-1 run and extended the lead to 19. A jumper by McTamney with 2:52 remaining finished a 20-point effort by the senior as the Bears went on to win 69-51.

Ursinus is back in action on Thursday at home against Gettysburg.
