The Muhlenberg men's basketball team closed out the Scotty Wood Tournament on a positive note, coming back from a halftime deficit to defeat Goucher, 82-69.
Freshman
Dan Gaines was named to the all-tournament team after scoring 29 points – the most by a Mule freshman since 2012 – on the strength of 11-of-16 shooting. He also recorded 6 assists and 7 rebounds
Sophomore
Michael Morreale (pictured above) also flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 8 points, a career-high 8 assists and a career-high 14 rebounds in addition to blocking 3 shots.
Senior
Brendan Hughes had his best game of the young season, scoring 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from three-point range.
The Mules (2-2) were down a point at the half and trailed by five points early in the second half before making their move. Two threes by Hughes, one by freshman
Dallas Hoffman and a layup by Morreale off a long pass by Gaines made for an 11-0 run that gave Muhlenberg a 52-45 lead.
Goucher (1-3) was within two, at 55-53, before a tipin by senior
Erik Werheim kicked off a 10-1 surge to put the Mules up by double digits for the first time with less than nine minutes to play. The Gophers did not get within seven points the rest of the way.
Werheim and Hoffman both finished with 9 points and 5 rebounds.
