#20 UMW Men's Tennis Tops Washington College and Averett University on Sunday

The 20th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team defeated Washington College of Maryland, 6-3, and Averett University, 8-1, on Sunday at the UMW Indoor Tennis Center. The Eagles improve to 5-2 on the season.

In doubles against Washington, Rishi Charan Shankar and Nick Spera defeated Karl Hoegstedt and Andrew Smith at one, 8-7 (3), and Peter Leese and Cole Tecce won at three over Ryohei Kawai and Brady Burns, 8-4.

The Eagles gained wins in singles from Charan Shankar at one over Hoegstedt, 6-2, 7-6 (4), Artis Hart at four over Koby Bonta, 6-3, 6-3, Priyan Desilva at five over Burns, 6-1, 6-4, and Andrew Cooper at six over A. Ravichandran, 6-0, 6-3.

In the win over Averett, Moses Hutchison and Andrew Watson won at one doubles, Charan Shankar and Spera won at two, 8-1, and Leese and Tecce were victorious at three, 8-6. 

In singles, Hutchison won at one, 6-1, 6-3, over Figueroa, Charan Shankar won at two, 7-6, 6-4, over Martherus, and Tecce downed Nurrinen at three, 7-5, 6-0. Spera defeated Nishizoc, 1-6, 7-6, 10-8, at four. Andrew Campbell downed Sukhonlinov at six, 6-7, 6-2, 10-2.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday at Washington & Lee University at 12:00 p.m.
