Bears Fall Against Swarthmore

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Ursinus College women's basketball team were defeated by Swarthmore 59-36 on Saturday afternoon.  

Freshman forward Chinwe Irondi led the Bears with a team-high 10 points and 8 rebounds. Junior Margrett Brown added 8 points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field while adding three rebounds. The Garnet jumped out to an early 12-3 lead before five straight points from Irondi cut the deficit to 12-8. Gabby Downs knocked down a three, and four straight points from Brown gave Ursinus the lead after the first quarter 15-14.  

In the second quarter, Swarthmore defense capitalized on five turnovers from the Bears, outscoring Ursinus 14-8. Kim Kockenmeister scored six points in the second frame as Alyssa Hayashi picked up two steals for the Garnet. Swarthmore led 28-23 at halftime. 

The Bears offense were unable to catch up in the third quarter as they were outscored 13-4. Dana Bandurick dropped 4 points in the quarter for Swarthmore as they lead 41-27. Maria D'Aulerio scored five points in the final quarter for Ursinus, but Swarthmore shot 61% from the field and picked up their second consecutive victory.  

The Bears will return to action on Tuesday as they travel to play Franklin & Marshall at 6:00 PM.
