The Muhlenberg wrestling team won its last two matches to salvage a split of four duals at the Mid-Winter Classic.

The Mules (7-5) lost to Elizabethtown, 19-18, and 13th-ranked NYU, 32-12, before rebounding to defeat Rhode Island College, 24-16, and host Penn College, 40-9.

Sophomore Joey Lamparelli and senior Luca Colestock both went 4-0, while seniors Greg Baum and Angelo Mahaffey were 3-1 apiece.

Lamparelli won four contested bouts, two by major decision, at 125 to improve to 21-4 on the season. He trailed 4-2 after the first period vs. Rhode Island College but rode his opponent the entire second period, scoring two points on a near-fall, then pulled away for a major by scoring 10 points in the third period.

Colestock won twice by forfeit, once by technical fall and once by pin at 197 to pass the 60-win mark for his career. He nearly was pinned in the first period against Elizabethtown and trailed 8-4 after the first three minutes, but recovered to pin his opponent late in the second period.

Baum's three wins included a technical fall against Rhode Island College. Mahaffey (pictured above) won a pair of exciting matches, taking his Elizabethtown opponent down with 16 seconds left in the third period for a 3-1 decision and taking his RIC opponent down 44 seconds into overtime for a 5-3 sudden victory.

Sophomore Ricky Caamano split his four bouts, including a 5-3 loss to a d3wrestle.com rankings contender from NYU in a bout that came down to the final seconds. Freshman Anson Dewar also won twice.
