How it Happened
• The Blue Jays made four three-pointers in the first quarter to take a six-point lead after the first 10 minutes of play. Lillian Scott led Hopkins with nine points in the quarter against the Spartans, who were coming off an upset victory over No. 10 Messiah on Thursday night.
• Scott hit a three at 6:39 in the second to give JHU its largest lead of the game as Hopkins went up 29-19. A three by Logynn Fuller cut the Hopkins lead to single digits at nine, but a layup from Cole and a free throw from freshman Diarra Oden put Johns Hopkins back up 12 at 34-22.
• The Spartans went on an 11-0 run to end the half and pulled to within one as Meghan Carlson hit a layup with 23 seconds left to make the score 34-33.
• Johns Hopkins opened the half with four-straight free throws to go up five, however, back-to-back threes from York gave the Spartans their first lead of the game at 39-38. A Scholtz layup put Hopkins back in the lead, 40-39, but Molly Day hit a jumper to regain the lead for York. A three-point play by Meghan Carlson gave the Spartans their largest lead of the game at 53-49, but with eight seconds left Cole hit a layup to cut the York lead in half as the third quarter ended with York leading 53-51.
• Hopkins opened the final quarter on a 9-0 run to pull ahead 60-53. A three from Fuller brought York to within four at 67-63 with 2:28 remaining, but the Spartans were unable to catch the Blue Jays as JHU held on for the 73-65 win.
