Overtime Unkind For No. 16 Women's Soccer

SWARTHMORE, Pa.--No. 16 Swarthmore College Women's Soccer opened the Centennial Conference portion of its schedule with a back-and-forth battle with unbeaten Dickinson College. The Swarthmore Garnet (5-2, 0-1) were dealt just their second loss of the season as they fell 1-0 in double overtime. Dickinson improved to 5-0-2 and 1-0-0 in Centennial action.

Dickinson has only conceded three goals this season and picked up its third shutout. The Red Devils also had a tie against the No. 4 team in the nation earlier this season.

Swarthmore out-shot the visitors 15-6 and four shots on goal to Dickinson's three. Brittany Weiderhold posted a team-high five attempts.

The Garnet nearly scored in the 74th minute when a point-blank shot from Kim Kockenmeister ricocheted off of a defender and seemed destined for the back of the net, but caromed off the left post and out of harm's way.

Kockenmeister had a shot in the first overtime and Weiderhold had a shot on goal five minutes into the second overtime.

Dickinson scored the golden goal in the 108th minute, finishing a hard cross past freshman goalkeeper Lillian Keller.

Swarthmore looks to bounce back on Wednesday against Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania.
