Women's Soccer Edged By McDaniel In Double OT

WESTMINSTER, Md.—Swarthmore College Women's Soccer fell to Centennial Conference foe McDaniel College 4-3 in double overtime on Saturday afternoon.

Swarthmore (6-3, 1-2 Centennial) was cruising, up 3-1 after 48 minutes, but McDaniel (7-2, 2-1 Centennial) mounted a furious comeback and scored in the 64th, 73rd and 106th minutes to win the game.

Brittany Weiderhold netted the game's opening goal in the 10th minute, volleying home a lobbed in pass from Sophia Stills in the midfield. McDaniel's Maddie Schwartz, who had two goals and an assist, tallied her first goal in the 18th minute to even the count 1-1.

Megan Ruoff found her second goal of the season in the 27th minute. She gathered a carom out of the box and sent it right back where it came from with a well struck kick for the goal. Swarthmore went into halftime ahead 2-1 while holding a 6-2 shot advantage.

In the second half, McDaniel took 10 shots to Swarthmore's eight. Swarthmore struck first in the second period as senior Sydney Covitz tallied her first goal of the season on a brilliant kick that dipped in just beneath the crossbar and above the goalkeeper's fingertips.

After McDaniel evened the score to force overtime, Swarthmore's Covitz got off a shot in the first OT period. McDaniel put two on goal and freshman goalkeeper Nora Greer recorded a pair of saves in the frame.

Swarthmore had a chance in the 103rd minute to win it, but Megan Ruoff's shot was stopped on the line by a defender. The Green Terror put home the game-winner in the 106th minute following a cross from the left that was headed in by Schwartz.

Swarthmore moves on to face Washington College (Md.) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
