LANCASTER, Pa. - Competing in their first indoor meet of the season, the Swarthmore men's track and field team put up stellar results at Franklin & Marshall University's Diplomat Open on Friday, Dec. 9th.
Competing against a number of schools, including Centennial Conference rivals, F&M, Gettysburg and Muhlenberg, the Garnet captured two events wins, finishing first in both the long jump and the 800m.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- First year
Rishi Tella squeaked out a win in dramatic fashion in the long jump, securing the victory on his very last attempt. Trailing the leader by just 0.01m with one jump left, Tella made it count, recording a winning mark of 6.53m and capping his first collegiate meet with a W.
- Moving to the track, seniors
Aiden Tomov and
Ethan Rothenberg captured a Garnet win in the 800m, finishing back-to-back in first and second place respectively. Tomov took the victory with a time of 1:58.77, while Rothenberg finished less than a second behind his teammate at 1:59.60.

Harrison Kim narrowly took fourth in the mile after making a last second pass at the finish line with a time of 4:37.56.

Gabriel Hines put together a fifth place effort in the 60m dash with a time of 7.27.
Jonathon Cubus also earned a top-10 effort in the 400m dash at 55.40.
- The Garnet closed out the night with the 4x400m relay of
Matthew Gutow, Rothenberg, Cubus and Tomov finishing second overall. The team crossed the finish line at 3:37.53.

Not competing again until next year, the Garnet will travel to TCNJ for the Lions Indoor Invitational Saturday, Jan. 14th, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.
