A pair of dual-sport athletes had the top performances for the Muhlenberg track and field teams at their home indoor invitational.
Freshman
Mike Powel (pictured above left), who played football in the fall, won the shot put by uncorking a monster throw of 46-10¾ on his sixth and final attempt. It was the sixth-best mark in program history.
And freshman
Avery McNulty, on the day in between playing for the Mule women's basketball team, made her track & field debut by winning the high jump at 5-1¾. The height not only tied for seventh on the Mules' all-time performance list, but it is also the top mark in the Centennial Conference so far this season.
In all, the Muhlenberg teams combined for 10 first-place finishes, including three by freshman
Niki Matthews, who won the 55-meter hurdles, long jump and triple jump. Her distance in the triple jump was a personal best.
Other first-place finishers for the women were freshmen
Shira Gamson and
Shanice Williams in the 55 and 200, respectively, and junior
Erica Borbi in the shot put.
Powel led a 1-2-3-4 Muhlenberg finish in the shot put, with senior
Dylan DeMagistris (second place) setting a personal best that ranks 10th on the all-time performance list.
Sophomore
Connor Fenstermaker won the long jump, and the 4x800 relay team closed out the meet by finishing first. Sophomore
Isadore Silver anchored the 4x8 team and also was the first collegiate finisher in the 800, beaten only by Mule assistant coach
Anthony Calantoni '18.
