Softball Swept at Washington

The Muhlenberg softball team dropped a pair of Centennial Conference contests at Washington, 9-3 and 4-3.

Following three runs from each team over the second game's first three innings, a pitchers' duel broke out with neither hurler allowing a baserunner past second until the bottom of the seventh. That runner proved to be the difference, however, scoring on a walkoff single to center field.

The Mules (18-14, 3-7 CC) rebounded from game one with the first three runs of the nightcap courtesy of a RBI double to left field from freshman Sarah Karmazyn in the top of the first and a two-RBI single to center in the third off the bat of senior Kristy Selby. The Shorewomen tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Freshman Cora Bridgers moved into 3rd place on Muhlenberg's single-season strikeout list by fanning seven Shorewomen on the day. Her season total now sits at 112, trailing Kelsey Jones' 2013 total of 123 and Hall of Famer Elaine Gratrix's 1991 total of 202.

Karmazyn also plated the first run of the opener, that time on a sac fly to right field. The Mules' other two runs came via bases-loaded walks from freshmen Genna Cicchetti and Natalie Smith. Washington did its damage in two innings, scoring four in the second and five in the fifth.

Another freshman, Sarah Raab (pictured above), shined in game one with her first multi-hit game in a 3-for-3 effort at the dish.
