ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – The Gettysburg College men's golf team battled through wintry conditions on both days of the McDaniel College Spring Invitational at The Bridges Golf Club and managed to slice seven strokes off its round one total to climb into a tie for fifth among 18 teams.
The Bullets shot 324 as a team amidst sleet and cold conditions on Saturday and sat eighth in the team standings through the first 18 holes. Despite the continued cold and wind gusts exceeding 30 miles per hour on Sunday, Gettysburg carded a team score of 317 and climbed three spots into a tie with Swarthmore College with a total score of 641. Franklin & Marshall College won the team championship with a two-day score of 627 (316-311).
Three members of Gettysburg's starting five improved their scores from day one to day two. Sophomore
Evan Drummond (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) led the team on Saturday with a seven-over 79 and he trimmed one stroke in round two to finish with a 78 and two-day total of 157. That tied him for 11th among the 84 finishers.
Freshman
Graeme Hollingshead (Basking Ridge, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) turned in the team's top score and biggest drop on Sunday, posting a 77 and shaving five strokes from his opening round. He finished tied for 15th.
Senior
Hayden Moffat (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) posted the same score on both days of the event, carding a pair of 80s to finish tied for 18th (160) overall. Senior
Matt Kalamar (Bethlehem, Pa./Allentown Central) was the third Bullet to improve his score during the tournament, cutting one stroke to post an 82 and finishing in a tie for 36th (165). Freshman
Jack Cooley (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) rounded out the lineup by tying for 46th with a two-day total of 168 (83-85).
Gettysburg competes at the Hershey Cup at the Hershey Country Club East Course on April 3-4 beginning at 8 a.m.
