MADISON, N.J. – The Haverford College men's soccer team wrapped up the non-conference portion of its regular season schedule with a 1-0 victory at Drew on Tuesday evening. After a scoreless opening half, Sykes Cargile tallied the lone goal just over six minutes into the second half for the only offense that the Fords (6-3-3) would need against the Rangers (4-7-2). The Fords seem to be hitting their stride at just the right time as they are now 3-0-1 during the month of October.

Following a scoreless opening 45 minutes, Haverford picked up the offensive intensity right from the start of the second half. The Fords earned their only two corners of the night in the opening minutes of that period and made the most of those opportunities. Although the initial pass into the box was originally cleared by the Rangers on the second corner attempt, Nick Jannelli gathered the possession and found Cargile on the far post for a header during the 52nd minute of play.

Getting the start on Tuesday night, Cargile rewarded that nod with the third goal of his career. Two of those three tallies have been game-winning efforts as the Fords' junior also scored the game-winning goal during Haverford's 2-0 win at McDaniel a season ago.

Jannelli was credited with the assist on the play, giving him 106 points (43 goals, 20 assists) for his career. With his latest offensive point, Haverford's co-captain tied Arn Jones '52 and his 106 career points for fifth in program history. Up next on Jannelli's climb through the record books is Phil Zipin '78 and his 108 career points. Jannelli's 20 career assists now have him 11th in school history for that category. The reigning Centennial Conference Player of the Year continues to lead the conference with 22 points (9 goals and 4 assists) during his senior campaign.

Reigning Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week Michael Iacono got the start in goal and picked up right where he left off as the Fords' co-captain made four saves on the night. Drew finished the evening with a 12-6 advantage in shots, but a great defensive effort kept the Rangers from finding the equalizer. Helping to limit Drew to just four shots on goal from those attempts was the backline which blocked down four shot attempts during the second half of play and cleared several other loose balls in the box throughout the second half.

Haverford's shutout was its second straight and sixth overall this season. Iacono now has eight shutouts over the course of his career while splitting time during four other shutouts. With another clean sheet, his career GAA dropped to 0.94 which now ranks second in school history. That mark trails only Teo Sevier '87 who finished his career with a 0.86 GAA. Haverford is now 15-5-2 during matches where Iacono finishes as the goalie of record.

Men's soccer will be back on the road Saturday when the Fords resume Centennial Conference play at Washington College. That match against the Shoremen is scheduled to get underway at 4 p.m. in Chestertown, Md. After that contest, Haverford closes the regular season with three of its final four matches on Walton Field.
