First Half Deficit Dooms Women's Lacrosse vs #2 F&M

COLLEGEVILLE, PA. - The Ursinus College women's lacrosse team fell behind early and was unable to overcome a first half deficit and surrendered an 18-4 loss to #2 ranked Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon.  

With the loss, Ursinus falls to 7-6 overall and 2-3 in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, Franklin & Marshall improved to 12-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play.  

The Diplomats jumped out to an early advantage and rode the momentum to a 7-0 lead after the first quarter. Marissa McGarrey scored the opening goal at the 14:24 mark of the first period. Teammate Kate McLam, Ally Marino, and McGarrey each scored multiple goals in the opening period.  

F&M carried the momentum in the second period going on a 6-0 run and held a 13-0 advantage at halftime. Gillian Brennan scored three goals in the period and scored a game-high of five during the contest. First-year Andrea Hook scored the Bears first goal with 2:11 to play in the third period. The Bears battled back in the final stanza outscoring F&M 3-0 over the final 15 minutes of play.  

Seniors Tori Rubin and Reilly Morgan each added a goal, while sophomore Mary Michaud added her first goal of the game with 18 seconds to play in the contest. Junior goalkeeper Alexa Machado collected 6 saves in the full 60 minutes of action.  

The Diplomats held a 14-9 advantage in draw controls, while outshooting the Bears by a 35-13 tally. Ursinus was 18 for 19 on clear attempts and forced 13 turnovers, while earning 17 ground balls.  

The Bears will return to action on Wednesday as they host Washington College from Patterson field at 7pm.
