ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Ursinus Men's Track & Field team went back to work at the Muhlenberg Invitational on Saturday afternoon in the second week of the outdoor season.
Senior
Isaiah Battle set the tone for the Bears in the meet on Friday afternoon during the hammer throw as he blasted his one week old school record with a mark of 54.87 meters. His throw set a Centennial Conference record that was previously held by Zach Jacobson of Johns Hopkins on his mark of 53.09 that was set in the 2018 Centennial Conference Championships. Battle's throw is also currently the third-longest mark for the hammer in Division III this season. Battle continued a great weekend at Muhlenberg by winning the discus on a career-best mark of 44.63 meters.
Senior
Tim Holzapfel followed Battle in the hammer with a throw of 50.14 meters and recorded a throw of 36.33 meters in the discus. Sophomore
Tom Wood placed third in the shot put with his mark of 13.72 meters and registered a toss of 36.71 meters in the discus. Junior
Eric Tanz set a new career best in the javelin with his throw of 52.89 meters that placed him third in the event while sophomore
Chase Shaneman recorded a fifth-place finish with his throw of 48.86 meters. Sophomores
Anthony Peloro and
Eric Sugarman each set new career bests in the javelin as well on throws of 48.23 and 45.57 meters, respectively.
Senior
Daniel Tabor won the 400 meters with a time of 49.18 and led a trio of Bears in the top-five for the race. Freshman
Aiden Tobin finished third with a career best time of 50.09 and junior
Collin Ney finished fourth after crossing the line at 50.57. Junior
Devon Greaves earned a second place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 58.51 and sophomore
Mason Jolivette followed in third with his time of 58.60. Freshman
Patrick Ryan recorded a season best time of 17.55 in the 110-hurdles and finished eighth in the race.
A pair of freshman showed well in the first steeplechase of the season as
Ryan Martin finished second overall (first among D3 runners) with his time of 9:51.95 and
Liam Johnston passed the line in fifth (fourth among D3 runners) after crossing the line at 9:58.98.
Sophomore
Ken Komatsu registered a career-high in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 4.30 meters. Junior
Michael Agbeye finished second in the triple jump on a mark of 12.38 meters and freshman James Sims established a new season best in the high jump with his mark of 1.75 meters.
A pair of 4x400 relay teams competed on the afternoon and the Ursinus "A" squad of Ney, Tobin, sophomore
Brett Mathis, and junior
Dolan Cox won the event with their time of 3:23.13. The "B" squad of Tabor, Greaves, Jolivette, and sophomore
Tyler Wilson finished third with their time of 3:27.48.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, April 8th as they will compete in West Chester's Golden Ram Classic.
