Ford Wins Gold in Triple Jump

Leap Day lived up to its name for a senior on the Muhlenberg men's track and field team.

Cameron Ford won his first career gold medal in the triple jump at the Centennial Conference Championships, leaping a personal-best 44-9 to win by almost 10 inches. The jump was the second-best in program history. Ford (pictured above right), whose previous highest CC finish was second outdoors in 2017, entered the meet with a career best of 43-2¼ and topped that on three of his six attempts, any of which would have been good enough for first place.

Freshman John Panny earned a bronze in the same event, setting his own personal best at 43-10¾.

Ford and Panny were responsible for two of the four medals won by the Mules on the first day of the CC meet. Senior Rashida Haye (pentathlon) and freshman Elek Ferency (weight throw) won silvers.

Haye (pictured above left) earned her first career conference medal by scoring 2784 points, topping the 2723 she accumulated earlier this season. She tied for first in the high jump with senior Alison Stouffer, who also set a personal-best score of 2288 in finishing fifth, and came in second in both the hurdles and long jump.

Haye also qualified for the final in the 60-meter hurdles.

Ferency became the first Mule ever to medal in the weight throw, unleashing his best distance of 45-0½ on his final attempt to jump from fifth place to second. Junior Sam Rothstein also placed in the weight throw, coming in seventh.

Muhlenberg also placed two athletes in the women's triple jump, with sophomore Corrin Ferrizzi finishing fifth and and junior Emily Mitchell eighth, and the men's pole vault, where junior Zach Lill and sophomore Jarred Ford were seventh and eighth, respectively.
