Women's Basketball Falls to Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, Md. - Swathmore College Women's Basketball dropped a road contest to Johns Hopkins University, 68-57, in Centennial Conference action on Tuesday. The Garnet fall to 8-4 and 5-3 in conference play, while the Blue Jays improve to 11-2 and 8-1.

After controlling the ball from the opening tip, Alyssa Hayashi hit a driving layup from Emily Smith as the Garnet opened the scoring. Smith connected on the next possession as Swarthmore scored four of the first six points. 

Carolina Lopez and Dana Bandurick scored the first four points for the visitors in the opening two minutes of play in the third quarter. The final three-plus minutes of the third frame saw the Garnet close on a 6-2 run. Hayashi, Bandurick and Katelyn Becker accounted for the points during that run. 

In the paint, Swarthmore tallied 40 points, including 13 second chance points. The Garnet forced the Blue Jays into 20 turnovers and the visitors recorded 20 points off of those turnovers. Bandurick, Hayashi and Becker all finished the game with three steals. 

In 40-minutes of action on the court, Bandurick notched another double-double with a game-high 26 points and 11 rebounds. Hayashi finished the game with eight points, while Kim Kockenmeister added seven points. T Sallie added six points, Becker concluded the game with four, while Smith, Lopez and Norah Wingfield each added a pair.

Swarthmore returns to the court on Wednesday as they close out the non-conference schedule against #22 University of Mary Washington. Tip-off for the non-conference game is set for 5:30 p.m. Spectators are not permitted to watch the game in person at Tarble Pavilion, but they can catch all the action with live video and live stats.
