Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Blanks Diplomats 1-0

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Soccer (8-3, 3-2 Centennial) constantly pressured the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats on Saturday and finally broke through in the 69th minute with brilliant header from Sophia Stills. The Garnet tallied 24 shots in total but just needed the one to go in as they claimed a 1-0 victory over the Diplomats during Garnet Weekend.

The Garnet put 18 of those 24 shots on target to keep visiting goalkeeper Sara Ghorashi active all night. Stills and Maddy Carens each fired off five shots, and Kim Kockenmeister added four.

Swarthmore's defense only allowed F&M to take four shots on goal, but goalkeeper Chantal Reyes turned them all away. Reyes made a diving save in the 88th minute to keep the shutout intact, her third clean sheet of the year.

The Garnet had what appeared to be a great scoring chance on a ball served into the box early in the game, but as Brittany Weiderhold rose up to head in a cross, she was flattened. While the crowd assumed a penalty kick would be awarded to the Garnet, no foul was called and play resumed.

A foul in the 69th minute set up Swarthmore's goal. Eleonore Moser took the restart shy of midfield and drove the kick into the box. Stills, facing away from the goal flicked the shot backwards and over the goalkeeper's reach. Stills now has three goals on the season.

Swarthmore is off this week and then gears up for a three-game week beginning with Farmindale State at home on Oct. 14.
