Ken Barnes ’20 placed third in the long jump at F&M

LANCASTER, Pa. – Senior Ken Barnes (Edison, N.J./Westminster School [Conn.]) moved into second all-time in Bullets indoor history and helped the Gettysburg College men's track and field team display a strong season debut at the Coach I Open, which was hosted at Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday.

Meet Highlights
  • Barnes led the Bullets with a third place showing out of 33 competitors in the long jump, leaping 21' 10.75" for a new personal-record and moving into second all-time in Gettysburg indoor history. The current record holder is Travis Andrews '16 with a 22' 6.25" mark.
  • Tubula posted a distance of 41' 9.25" in the triple jump to take fifth overall.
  • Motill performed a stellar junior debut, as he placed 12th out of 43 in the 60-meter dash with a 7.25 time, which is a new PR and ranks him sixth in Gettysburg indoor history. He also blazed to 10th in the 200-meter dash, clocking a PR 23.58.
  • Liedtka notched a ninth-place showing in the 60-meter hurdles in his collegiate opener, clocking 9.15 for fifth all-time for indoor track and field.
  • Freshman Caden Giordano (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) registered 13th in the 400-meter dash with a 56.18 mark. Junior Matt Simmers (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Indian Hills) also competed in the event and tallied 12th for a new PR (9.37), which climbed him up into seventh on the all-time indoor list.
  • The 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore Steven Heinbaugh (Fairfield, Pa./Fairfield), Liedtka, Giordano, and junior Nicholas Grissinger (Palmyra, Pa./Milton Hershey) placed ninth with a mark of 3:42.56.
  • Sophomore Corey Palazzolo (Colts Neck, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) placed fourth out of a field of 13 in the high jump (5'10.75"). He also registered 10th in the triple jump (39' 1").
  • Grissinger also competed in the pole vault, claiming the sixth spot (12' 11.5", PR) and tying the ninth best all-time mark in program history. Heinbaugh competed as well, placing right behind in seventh (12' 5.5").
Coming Up
Gettysburg is off from competition until Jan. 25, when it competes at the Franklin & Marshall Invite.
