Strong Second-Half Pushes Women’s Soccer Past Elizabethtown

Lancaster, Pa. – A strong offensive second-half performance by the Gettysburg women's soccer team lead the squad to a 3-0 victory at Elizabethtown College on Saturday night. Tonight's game marks the first shutout of the season for Gettysburg.

Freshman Molly O'Shea (Reading, Pa./Wilson), freshman Emma Bedell (Chatham, N.J./Mount Saint Mary), and senior Lauren Miesemer (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) all found the back of the net for Gettysburg (2-1-1) in the second-half.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kerry Sammon started and played between the pipes for 80 minutes while freshman Madelyn Cunningham (Mount Airy, Md./Linganore) saw action in the final 10 minutes and grabbed one save.

The Bullets outshot the Blue Jays 6-0 in the opening half, with two of those being shots on goal.

The Bullets offense controlled the second-half as they scored three goals during a 16-minute span. O'Shea struck first in the 49th minute, while Bedell scored at the 61st, and Miesemer added one at the 65th minute. O'Shea was credited with an assist on Bedell's goal, while freshman Erika Muskus (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains Fanwood) notched an assist on Miesemer's goal. For the second game in a row, O'Shea and Miesemer each netted one goal.

The Orange and Blue played stellar defense as they only allowed the Blue Jays one shot on goal, which came at the 85th minute in the second-half. Gettysburg outshot Elizabethtown 13-2.

The Bullets were able to go deep into their bench, with 27 different players entering the game.

Gettysburg will welcome York (Pa.) College Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. in a non-league tilt.
