Greyhounds Ground Eagles

BETHLEHEM, Pa.- The Juniata football team lost on the road at Moravian, 51-7, Saturday afternoon at Rocco Calvo Field.

The game opened with three punts, two by the Eagles around one by the hosts. With a little under nine minutes to go in the half, the Greyhounds took over from the 50 and drove 50 yards on six plays, with the final 18 coming on an 18-yard touchdown pass as they opened the scoring.

The Eagles punted again, and the defense managed to get off the field as Dontey Rogan knifed in for a 10-yard sack that stalled the Moravian drive. The Greyhound punter booted the ball 64 yards, and the Eagles couldn't get much going as they had to also punt.

Starting from their 41, Moravian did the bulk of their damage on the ground as the drive ran into the second quarter. On third and ten from the JC 21, they hit on a 21-yard TD pass to double their lead.

Moravian would go on to score two more times in the half as they led 28-0 at the break.

The Greyhounds started the second half with the ball and drove 75 yards on nine plays to increase their lead to 35 with a 19-yard touchdown run.

The teams traded punts, with the Eagles taking over at their own 15. Hunter Wolfley managed to get going some on the ground while Noah Wright found Chris Mignanelli for receptions of 10 and seven yards to help get the Eagles down to the Moravian 28. JC went for it on fourth down, but Sean Hakanson caught a pass short of the sticks, and Juniata turned the ball over on downs.

On the third play of the Moravian drive, Quintin Stephens picked off a long pass at the Juniata 27. Juniata couldn't get much going on the offensive, so they punted, and Moravian took over to start the final quarter.

The Greyhounds scored two touchdowns and a field goal over the next 10 minutes to push their advantage to 51.

The Eagles started from their own 22, Cameron Fabian shook loose on a few carries, and Wright found Hakanson for gains of 11 and 21 yards to drive the ball deep into Greyhound territory. On third and one from the Moravian 10, Wright ran the ball in to get the Eagles on the board.

Rogan led all players with 12 total tackles and added a sack; Jake Matchock had nine tackles and a pass break-up, while JR Harrison tacked on eight tackles and two pass breakups. Alessandro Mannino totaled eight tackles with a sack. Hakanson had five catches for 49 yards; Fabian had six rushes for 37 yards, while Wolfley had 20 carries for 64 yards.

The Eagles head into the bye week and will take the field on October 15th against Franklin & Marshall at 1:00.
