Men's Swimming Opens Season With Win Over McDaniel

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Swimming dove into a new season on Saturday, darting past the McDaniel College Green Terror 110-46.

Two pool records fell for the Garnet as Alec Menzer broke a mark from 2012 with a time of 1:41.39 in the 200 free, and Jeffrey Tse blew past the old 100 breaststroke time set in 2009 with a time of 57.48.

Tse also broke the school record he set last season in the 100 IM with a time of 52.01.

The Garnet were unchallenged in the 200 medley to open the meet, and then freshman Jeremy Rockaway won the 400 IM by nearly eight seconds (4:14.21).

Rookie Alec Lawless dashed to a time of 21.94 seconds to win the 50 free. Lawless got his second win in the 100 free (47.97).

Senior Chris Smith gave the Garnet another win with a time of 53.01 in the 100 fly.

Horace Shew, freshman, completed the 100 backstroke in 53.64 seconds for the Garnet win.

Fellow freshman Tom Ward finished in first place in the 500 free with a mark of 4:52.57.

Swarthmore returns to action on Friday night at home against Franklin & Marshall College.
