Redhawks Fall in Rubber Match to Swarthmore, 15-4

PORT CHARLOTTE - La Roche used seven pitchers in a crushing 15-4 loss against Swarthmore in the rubber match between the non-conference opponents Wednesday afternoon. It marks LRU's worst loss since April 18, 2018 when they fell to Pitt.-Greensburg 15-3. As a unit, the Redhawks batted 4-31 (.129) at the plate, their lowest hit total and percentage in a game this season. The Garnet, on the other hand, had four players with three or more hits, batting 19-48 (.396) as a team.

On the Mound

A season-high seven pitchers appeared in Wednesday's game for LRU. Sophomore RHP Tre Cunningham (Jeannette, PA/Jeannette) picked up the L in his second collegiate start (Cunningham: 4.0 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K). Senior RHP Chris Hanlon (Robinson Twp., PA/Montour) came in for relief. He pitched two innings and gave up five hits and three earned runs while striking out a batter. Senior RHP Mike Nuzzo (New Castle, PA/Neshannock) was next, he relinquished three hits and four earned runs in two-thirds of an inning. Dustin Lander, Jeff Santa and Joe Kozlina all made appearances.

At the Plate

THE GARNET: Three Garnet had three RBI (Holden Bridge, Luke Mutz and Jared Gillen) and the team had 13 total. Swarthmore recorded seven extra base hits (six doubles, one triple). They struck out just five times.

THE REDHAWKS: LRU had just one hit through the first six innings. Ryan Lynn and Jason Swope brought in two runs on a sacrifice bunt and fly in the third. Cameron Pies hit an RBI single in the first. Two of La Roche's hit came from non-starters (Justin Stancovich & Mason Brooks).

NEXT UP: La Roche looks to bounce back and close out the Snowbird Classic on a high note tomorrow afternoon against Susquehanna at 1:00 p.m.
