SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Swarthmore College Field Hockey dropped a hard fought Centennial game against Bryn Mawr at Clothier Field on Thursday afternoon. The Garnet fell to the Owls in a 3-2 battle.
Aron Lankford recorded a crucial save off the stick of Ryann McManus as time was coming to a close in the first half. The Garnet and Owls entered the break scoreless.
Shortly into the third quarter,
Marion Carr found the back of the net as she dribbled through the defense for a reverse stroke in the 33rd minute.
Chelsea Semper added to the Garnet lead as she knocked home a goal in the 36th minute. Semper sent the Swarthmore penalty corner to Carr, and raced to the side of the where the junior tipped in the ball for her sixth of the season.
Bryn Mawr cut into the lead with a goal from Samantha Shaw in the 42nd minute. Sara Rilatt and Kelly Bergman tallied the next two goals from the Owls.
Carr finished the game with three shots and an assist. Swarthmore notched seven shots and six penalty corners against Bryn Mawr.
Samie Martin added two shots, while
Heide Van Voorhis recorded a shot for the Garnet.
Lankford finished the game with six saves on nine shots on net.
Swarthmore dropped to 4-8 overall and 1-5 against Centennial opponents. The Garnet travels to Baltimore, Md. to take on #10 Johns Hopkins in conference action.
