Michael Morreale hit a three from the corner with 7.1 seconds left to give the Muhlenberg men's basketball team a thrilling 74-72 win against Delaware Valley in its home opener.
After a slow start, the Mules (3-0) took the lead late in the first half and opened up a double-digit margin midway through the second half. But the Aggies came back, taking a 69-68 lead on a three-pointer with 3:39 to play.
The score remained 69-68 until the final minute, when Morreale hit a three-pointer from the top of the key. Delaware Valley tied the game on a pair of free throws with 28.1 ticks on the clock.
Morreale's second consecutive three made it 74-71. Following a Muhlenberg foul with 3.6 seconds left, the Aggies made the first free throw and intentionally missed the second, but Morreale corralled the rebound to seal the win.
Ironically, the Mules struggled with their three-point shooting all night, going 2-for-25 in the first 39 minutes before Morreale's pair of clutch threes in the last minute.
